UNLV added a very important commitment this week with the addition of one of the first lineman the Rebels offered for this years recruiting class. The Rebels received a verbal commitment from 6-3 280 pound offensive lineman Yusef Rodgers from Crespi High School in Encino, Calif.

The Rebel coaching staff first noticed Rodgers when he attended their Big Man Camp at UNLV in the Spring. The UNLV coaches were so impressed with Yusef’s intelligence, toughness and fundamentals that they quickly offered Rodgers a scholarship. In fact, UNLV had offered Rodgers a scholarship before he even played a down of football in his senior season.

When asked if that early offer helped the Rebels secure his commitment, Rodgers quickly stated that it had. “Definitely, they were on me from Day One. They started recruiting me very early. A lot of the other schools waited until later to recruit me. The Rebels proved they wanted me early and that meant a lot.”

The Rebels beat out the likes of Fresno State, Utah State, Nevada and Idaho for Rodgers. “Those were the other schools recruiting me but I always knew I wanted to be Rebel. I think the other schools knew it too.”

Does Yusef plan on any other recruiting trips? “No, I was setting up some other trips but I won’t take them now. I am firm in my commitment to UNLV."
