Fauria's Future Is With Fighting Irish

Encino (Calif.) Crespi tight end Joseph Fauria joined his Serra League rivals Anthony McDonald and Dayne Crist in committing to Notre Dame, the third California native to verbal to the Irish in the past ten days...

Notre Dame made it a trifecta on Saturday, getting their third commitment from the Golden State, this one in the form of Joseph Fauria, the 6-7, 250-pound tight end from Crespi HS in Encino.
“I came out here for the spring game, and it just felt right,” said Fauria. “It felt like the place I want to be. It was my first time ever being there and in one word, I’d say it was beautiful. That’s what it was.”

Fauria follows fellow Californian’s Anthony McDonald and Dayne Crist, who both play at Serra League rival Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks.

“I actually spoke with Anthony today and we talked about building a relationship before we go to South Bend. And Dayne’ our friendship is getting better and better every week. It would be good to catch some passes from him in college,” said Fauria. “We’re bringing the west ballers out to Notre Dame.”

Fauria was walking around the Notre Dame campus after the spring game with assistant coach Brian Polian when he asked Polian a question.

“I asked if it was ok if I have another meeting with Charlie Weis,” said Fauria. “He asked if I was just asking for him to come back to talk to him or if I was asking him to come back to tell him I wanted to be a part of the family. He wasn’t pressuring me but I told him yeah that’s what I wanted to do. So he came back and I committed to him in person.”

While on his visit, Fauria’s uncle Christian, who played for Weis in New England, made one last ditch effort for his alma mater, Colorado.

“He texted me “Go Buffs” during my tour,” said Fauria. “I spoke to him right after I commited and he told me he’s excited for me and really proud of me.”

During his tour of the campus, Fauria got every sense of confirmation that he needed.

“Just being on campus, it was amazing. I spoke with Charlie Weis, once when I got there and once when I committed and his main point was when you find a reason, you commit. He told me he bet by tomorrow that I’d commit to Notre Dame after I’d seen the campus. The campus was just amazing. It was 70 degrees and there was 52,000 for the spring game. It was a good time to come out,” said Fauria.

Fauria said the early commitment is a big relief for him.

“Now I can have a free summer, no more text messages and a load off my back when I play my senior season,” said Fauria. “I can concentrate on my senior year and just have a good year.”
